{"id":1874,"date":"2018-02-26T20:34:59","date_gmt":"2018-02-26T20:34:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/womenrunningtheworld.com\/beginners\/?p=1874"},"modified":"2018-06-03T20:45:34","modified_gmt":"2018-06-03T20:45:34","slug":"2017-18-beginners-week-27","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/womenrunningtheworld.com\/beginners\/2018\/02\/26\/2017-18-beginners-week-27\/","title":{"rendered":"2017-18 Beginners Week 27"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"\">Well, what can I say? \u00a0You guys ROCKED Wembley.<\/div>\n<div class=\"\">A shoutout to Purvi who decided she needed a bit more mileage than everyone else. \u00a0And another shoutout to Keri who got in some interval training as a result of Purvi doing more mileage. \u00a0And finally to Dana who decided it would be fun to run to Wembley AGAIN with the make up group this past week because once is never enough!<\/div>\n<div class=\"\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"\">We are so incredibly proud of all of you and how far you\u2019ve come. \u00a0We have two more long runs to go and we know you can ALL do this.<\/div>\n<div class=\"\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"\">A few things:<\/div>\n<div class=\"\">First, if you haven\u2019t submitted information for the Utrecht photo directory, please do so ASAP. \u00a0Here is the link:<\/div>\n<div class=\"\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"\">I\u2019ll start chasing you down soon if you don\u2019t submit\u2026 \u00a0Thank you to those who already have!<\/div>\n<div class=\"\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"\">Right now, the weather in Utrecht is looking similar to what we have had in London, which is good (not including this week which is COLD!). \u00a0So low-40s F\/4-7 C is what is predicted a few days before the race, subject to change of course. \u00a0<b class=\"\">You should be trying out what you think you might wear on the race over the next week or so.<\/b> \u00a0Make sure nothing rubs the wrong way, think about layers, etc. \u00a0Some people will buy a cheap outer layer that they plan to toss when they get hot so they don\u2019t have to carry it. \u00a0So think about whether you care if something is tied around your waist. \u00a0My beginner year, I bought that cheap layer but I realized during the race that I was so used to having something around my waist that I didn\u2019t care, so I kept it. \u00a0Everyone is different, but think about what might work for you.<\/div>\n<div class=\"\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"\">This week and next, we will plan to take our gels <b class=\"\">while running.<\/b> \u00a0We need to practice &#8211; we do not plan to stop to take the gels during the race. \u00a0Sometimes the gel packaging can be tricky &#8211; so just resort to pulling the tab off with your teeth if you have to. \u00a0This is why we practice \ud83d\ude42 \u00a0We will take the gels about 70-80 min into the run.<\/div>\n<div class=\"\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"\">I know we are all excited to do the run to Canary and get us some margaritas. \u00a0However, the weather is pretty crazy this week. \u00a0If it looks like the canal is going to be icy, we will change the route, probably to do the Battersea loop which is similar to the Sloane Square to Westminster to Green Park route we did a few weeks ago but it adds on some mileage by going through Battersea Park and going all the way back to SJW.<\/div>\n<div class=\"\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"\">For now, we are going to assume that the weather gods will be nice and we can run to Canary. \u00a0I will hopefully confirm Wednesday night but I may leave the call until Thursday morning depending on how the weather looks.<\/div>\n<div class=\"\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"\">This week, and hopefully next as well, we will do a staggered start so that we will all end fairly close together. \u00a0Carol, Claudia, Fernanda, Nancy, Purvi and Sue will start out at 8:10 with Megan and Amy. \u00a0Everyone else will start the usual time with Dani and Keri and guest coach Kris (a beginner from last year like Tamar &#8211; so ask her any questions you have!). \u00a0The two groups will pause at each turn in the route to make sure we don\u2019t lose anyone &#8211; so the lead coach for the group will pause and wait for the rear coach to catch up, if needed, before continuing on. \u00a0This should hopefully avoid any more extra mileage mishaps&#8230;<\/div>\n<div class=\"\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"\">\n<div class=\"\">OK \u2013 for the run, don\u2019t forget:<\/div>\n<div class=\"\">\n<ul class=\"\">\n<li class=\"\">eat something before the run<\/li>\n<li class=\"\">bring water<\/li>\n<li class=\"\">bring a gel if you have one<\/li>\n<li class=\"\">bring your Oyster card<\/li>\n<li class=\"\">bring money\/credit card for margaritas and breakfast burritos!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div class=\"\">I have extra gels and will bring some with me, but since I am leaving with the early group, I need to know if anyone NOT in that early group wants some and I will leave a bag with one of the other coaches.<\/div>\n<div class=\"\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"\">\n<div class=\"\"><b class=\"\">Canary Wharf route<\/b><\/div>\n<div class=\"\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"\"><u class=\"\">Section One &#8211; Regents Park to the Canal<\/u><\/div>\n<div class=\"\"><span class=\"\">Run down Wellington Road to Prince Albert, cross using the zebra crossing and then head down to the mosque where you enter the park. \u00a0At the light, cross the Outer Circle and enter the park, keeping to the left and going over the wooden bridge. \u00a0Run straight and take a slight left (not a hard left) and run, crossing over one cross path and turning left at the second one. \u00a0Run back over the Outer Circle, cross the canal and then take a right to go down onto the canal.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-1877\" src=\"https:\/\/womenrunningtheworld.com\/beginners\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2018\/02\/Canary10RegentsDetail.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"272\" height=\"220\" srcset=\"https:\/\/womenrunningtheworld.com\/beginners\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2018\/02\/Canary10RegentsDetail.png 680w, https:\/\/womenrunningtheworld.com\/beginners\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2018\/02\/Canary10RegentsDetail-300x243.png 300w, https:\/\/womenrunningtheworld.com\/beginners\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2018\/02\/Canary10RegentsDetail-470x380.png 470w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 272px) 100vw, 272px\" \/><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"\">\n<div class=\"\"><u class=\"\">Section Two \u2013 Canal to the Wall<\/u><br class=\"\" \/>Run along the canal for approximately 3 miles until the canal pathway ends at the famous \u201cWall.\u201d \u00a0Note &#8211; there is likely a detour we will need to take:<\/div>\n<div class=\"\">\n<div class=\"\">\n<div class=\"gmail-m_-8647053797904646577m_-2080346040317933859gmail-\"><span class=\"gmail-m_-8647053797904646577m_-2080346040317933859gmail-\"><span class=\"gmail-m_-8647053797904646577m_-2080346040317933859gmail-\" style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">DIVERSION &#8211; Follow the bridge across the canal and turn right on Camden High Street. Take the first left on Hawley Crescent and then left on Kentish Town Road. There is an entrance back to the canal path on the left side of the bridge.<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<div class=\"gmail-m_-8647053797904646577m_-2080346040317933859gmail-\"><span class=\"\">\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"\"><span class=\"\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-1878\" class=\"\" \/><u class=\"\">Section Three \u2013 Angel Roads<\/u><br class=\"\" \/>We need to run through the Angel neighbourhood until we can re-enter the canal path. \u00a0 At the wall follow the ramp up to Muriel Street. \u00a0Take a right and then an almost immediate left up a path that winds between the apartment buildings.\u00a0 See the picture below for the entrance to the path.<\/p>\n<div class=\"\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1616\" src=\"https:\/\/womenrunningtheworld.com\/beginners\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2016\/09\/CanaryPic1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"240\" height=\"320\" srcset=\"https:\/\/womenrunningtheworld.com\/beginners\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2016\/09\/CanaryPic1.jpg 240w, https:\/\/womenrunningtheworld.com\/beginners\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2016\/09\/CanaryPic1-225x300.jpg 225w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 240px) 100vw, 240px\" \/><br class=\"\" \/><br class=\"\" \/><\/div>\n<p class=\"\">Keep going straight on the path and it will become Maygood Street.\u00a0 When you get to the intersection of a main road (Barnsbury Road) turn right.\u00a0 Run until you make the second left onto Chapel Market. \u00a0(There is a metal archway saying Chapel Market and a zebra crossing at the intersection.) \u00a0Follow Chapel Market until the end. \u00a0(NB: \u00a0There is a public Ladies Room at the end of White Conduit Street, which intersects with Chapel Market about midway.) \u00a0Turn right at Liverpool Street to the major road Upper Street.\u00a0 Cross Upper Street and turn left. \u00a0(NB: \u00a0Angel Tube Station is to your right if you are going home from here.) \u00a0Make your first right at Duncan Street and follow until the end.\u00a0 The entrance to the canal path will be directly in front of you.\u00a0 Go straight along the canal (NOT a sharp right turn.)<\/p>\n<p class=\"\"><u class=\"\">Section Four \u2013 Canal to Limehouse Basin<\/u><br class=\"\" \/>We run for about 4 miles following the canal path past Victoria Park to the Limehouse Basin.\u00a0 We exit the canal path at the wire looking bridge \u2013 see picture below \u2013 and take the brown brick steps up to the left.<\/p>\n<div class=\"\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1617\" class=\"\" \/><u class=\"\">Section Five \u2013 Limehouse Basin to Canary Wharf<\/u><br class=\"\" \/>At the top of the brick steps, go straight.\u00a0 At the Limehouse Gallery and Bronze Age shop turn right.\u00a0 Run along the water until you reach the second metal foot-bridge leading to a park.\u00a0 Cross the bridge and run through the park.\u00a0 After the park, you\u2019ll run straight, under an arch and the water will be on your right.\u00a0 Run with the water on your right until you see the long flight of steps next to Royal China \u2013 see picture below.\u00a0 You\u2019re almost there!<\/div>\n<div><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1619\" the steps and run one full time around the traffic circle. \u00a0Then run a half circle and continue on as if you had run straight ahead from the steps, through the small park to India Drive and then veer slightly right along Cabot Square.\u00a0 You\u2019re heading for the big skyscraper building in front of you.\u00a0 Stop when you see the sign for the Canary Wharf DLR Station at the \u2018mall\u2019 entrance on the South Colonnade.\u00a0 We\u2019ll meet at the Tortilla inside the building, just right of the entrance.
