{"id":1870,"date":"2018-02-11T14:36:40","date_gmt":"2018-02-11T14:36:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/womenrunningtheworld.com\/beginners\/?p=1870"},"modified":"2018-05-22T14:45:33","modified_gmt":"2018-05-22T14:45:33","slug":"2017-18-beginners-week-25","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/womenrunningtheworld.com\/beginners\/2018\/02\/11\/2017-18-beginners-week-25\/","title":{"rendered":"2017-18 Beginners Week 25"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Hi everyone,<\/p>\n<p>You all continue to impress us! \u00a0Last week was a tough run because most of the second half was uphill. \u00a0You all did it so amazingly well!<\/p>\n<p>A few quick reminders for the run this week:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>eat something before the run<\/li>\n<li>bring your Oyster card<\/li>\n<li>we will be bringing the gels again this Thursday. \u00a0Bring water! \u00a0Try a different gel and then go out and purchase a few of your own. \u00a0We will keep bringing our stash until it runs out but you will need gels for Canary Wharf and Kew as well as the race. \u00a0You will want to have two for the race just in case.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">**** Money Collection \u2013 Tuesday 13 Feb 8:30-11:00am ****<\/span><\/strong><br \/>\nTuesday is a big day! Please stop by Kathy\u2019s house at 15 St. John&#8217;s Wood Terrace which is near the corner of SJW High Street (a few steps from Starbucks) some time between 8:30-11:00am. THANK YOU Kathy for letting us invade your house! We\u2019re collecting money (cash only) for shirts, hats, and all outstanding items for the Utrecht trip. We\u2019ll also be handing out the apparel. The dinners and tours are requiring large deposits so we\u2019re trying to simplify things for everyone by doing the collection now. On Tuesday. we\u2019ll have a master list of the amount everyone owes, but it would be helpful if you can bring the correct change. Thanks so much!<\/p>\n<p><strong>We\u2019re coming into the final stretch<\/strong><br \/>\nI know you all know this, but we have just over a month until race day and we have 3 longs runs left. \u00a0You all are amazing and you ALL can do this. \u00a0Don\u2019t worry about the times and the distances \u2013 they are long but we are in this together and we will DO THIS!<\/p>\n<p>I know there has been some concern that we aren\u2019t running enough. \u00a0If you are feeling antsy and want to do a VERY short 30 min run on some other day, that is OK. \u00a0But nothing more. \u00a0I don\u2019t want any injuries from overuse. \u00a0It may be better to try to do some other cardio (biking, swimming, spinning) so you don\u2019t mess up your running muscles. \u00a0I know it seems strange to not run the full 13 miles before the race but truly this is how most runners train. \u00a0The regular M\/W\/F group is running to Kew the same week we are and that is their longest run, just like us. \u00a0If you think about it, each week we are adding about a mile to our long runs. \u00a0Each week the run seems long, but it is also doable. \u00a0You know you can do just that extra bit. \u00a0And for the race, it will be the same.<\/p>\n<p>If you are feeling stressed about it, please talk to any coach. \u00a0We have all run several races and have all trained in this way and we are happy to talk to you about it.<\/p>\n<p>The rest of the schedule:<br \/>\nWeek 25 \u2013 15 Feb \u2013 110 min = Wembley<br \/>\nWeek 26 \u2013 22 Feb \u2013 \u00a060 min &#8211; ASL BREAK \u00a0(note &#8211; anyone who missed Wembley can run it this week instead)<br \/>\nWeek 27 \u2013 1 Mar \u2013 120 min = Canary Wharf<br \/>\nWeek 28 \u2013 8 Mar \u2013 130 min = Kew Gardens<br \/>\nWeek 29 \u2013 15 Mar \u2013 45 min = easy run through Regents Park<br \/>\nRACE DAY!<\/p>\n<p>Don\u2019t forget \u2013 your Tuesday runs are now 60 min long and the weekend run is 45 mins. \u00a0It is CRITICAL that you are running 3 times a week at this point. \u00a0Put it in your calendar and get it done \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n<p><strong>This week\u2019s run<\/strong><br \/>\nWembley is one of my favorites. \u00a0There are many people who do not love this run as much as I do so I am going to tell you why I like it and you can tell me your own opinions of it at coffee \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n<p>Why I like the Wembley run:<br \/>\n1) <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">You see many sides of London along the canal<\/span><br \/>\nSome runners complain that parts of the canal are very ugly. \u00a0This is true. \u00a0However, I enjoy seeing the transition from city and the older buildings along the canal and newer gentrified condos to the industrial parts to the country parts, with glimpses of Wembley Stadium along the way. \u00a0I feel like it\u2019s the real London \u2013 many sides, not always so pretty but always something to look at. \u00a0And as you keep going, it changes.<\/p>\n<p>2) <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">You see a part of London you otherwise wouldn\u2019t \u2013 Wemble<\/span>y<br \/>\nNo, not the stadium but the streets. \u00a0There is a large Hindu population and there are many shops with brightly coloured saris and trinkets that are fun to look at. \u00a0And there is an amazing Hindu temple that was built in 2010 that took 14 years to build from stone from India. \u00a0It is incredible. \u00a0Look for it on the left hand side of the street.<\/p>\n<p>3) <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">It has a long, uninterrupted stretch of canal running<\/span><br \/>\nOnce we get on the canal, we run for about 6 miles. \u00a0I believe this will be the longest stretch of uninterrupted running you will have had so far. \u00a0One of the things that makes me love this run is that it was on this part of the run in my beginner year that I had a running epiphany \u2013 I felt like I could just keep running forever. \u00a0I think I had settled into that pace where you feel good, you feel like you\u2019re just cooking along and you can chat and run and all is good. \u00a0I hadn\u2019t really felt like that before and it was a great feeling. \u00a0Some of you may have already had that feeling, some may never get it, but having a nice long uninterrupted stretch may put you in a similar place. \u00a0I hope so!<\/p>\n<p>4) <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">You get to say you ran to Wembley!<\/span><br \/>\nMost people have heard of Wembley. \u00a0And people in London know it\u2019s a ways out. \u00a0So it\u2019s fun to be able to say you ran there \u2013 so impressive!<\/p>\n<p><strong>The route<\/strong><br \/>\nStart out heading west on Circus Road, turn left on Grove End to St John\u2019s Wood Road and go west, turning left on Cunningham then right on Aberdeen to work your way to the canal entrance on Blomfield. Continue out the canal and exit at Alperton, see photo below, not quite 7 miles in. Turn right at the top of the stairs, cross the bridge and take the first right onto Ealing Road. Just after the turn you\u2019ll see the Alperton station on your left. Follow Ealing Road to the High Road and turn right. You\u2019ll see Wembley Central on your right for the 8-mile route. For 9 miles, continue until you make a left on Park Lane which becomes Wembley Park Drive.
