{"id":1759,"date":"2012-02-05T15:12:08","date_gmt":"2012-02-05T15:12:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/womenrunningtheworld.com\/beginners\/?p=1759"},"modified":"2017-02-05T15:12:42","modified_gmt":"2017-02-05T15:12:42","slug":"beginner-running-group-5-february-2012","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/womenrunningtheworld.com\/beginners\/2012\/02\/05\/beginner-running-group-5-february-2012\/","title":{"rendered":"Beginner Running Group 5 February 2012"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"color: #3366ff; font-family: 'times new roman', serif;\">Hello Everyone!<\/span><\/p>\n<div><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"color: #3366ff; font-family: 'times new roman', serif;\">Well, we survived last week. \u00a0We did it! \u00a0That was a tough run. \u00a0I thought that we&#8217;d have lots of mini-breaks at lights running through Chelsea, but no such luck. \u00a0It was as though all the street crossing signs were stuck on green men, but we made it. \u00a0This week&#8217;s long run will be 100 minutes of running time. \u00a0We&#8217;ll keep the route interesting so we are all distracted from the running. \u00a0Our route will take us out the canal to the west. \u00a0We will run past Notting Hill, past the Sainsbury&#8217;s at Ladbrook Grove, and come off the canal at Wood Lane. \u00a0We will basically run south on Wood Lane to Hammersmith Bridge, cross over the river Thames, and run along the river back to Putney. \u00a0We will come home by train from Putney to Waterloo, then the Jubilee Line to SJW. \u00a0It&#8217;s a quick trip home. \u00a0<\/span><span class=\"Apple-style-span\">We will do gels again this week. \u00a0I&#8217;ll bring a bunch for you to sample. \u00a0Some of you found the gel you like last week and have already ordered some for yourself. \u00a0If you need help in finding these gels online, let me know. \u00a0Don&#8217;t forget your water bottles!<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"color: #3366ff; font-family: 'times new roman', serif;\">This is our last long run for two weeks &#8211; during the ASL break you have a recovery week. \u00a0Your long run that week will be 60 minutes. \u00a0It will feel great! \u00a0 \u00a0Ladies, we are really almost done. \u00a0Get through this week, then you have a rest week, then we have 3 more long runs. \u00a0That&#8217;s it. \u00a0You&#8217;re almost there. \u00a0Psychologically these long runs are tough. \u00a0I have no profound words of wisdom on how to prepare for them. \u00a0Just remember to get back to the basics &#8211; eat a good breakfast, eat well the night before, hydrate, try to have a restful night, and most important&#8230; \u00a0tell yourself positive things. \u00a0Pump yourself up. \u00a0If you hear that negative tape playing in your mind, choose to shut it off. \u00a0You can do this. \u00a0I know you can. \u00a0I also know it&#8217;s hard and can be overwhelming. \u00a0Think of your friends &#8211; they are all doing it and they are all as scared as you. \u00a0Show up &#8211; just make yourself show up at Starbucks. \u00a0Once we get going, you&#8217;ll be OK. \u00a0You have a group of people ready to hold your hand or give you a pep talk, but you have to get yourself there. \u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"color: #3366ff; font-family: 'times new roman', serif;\">Your Tuesday, mid-distance run should be 60 minutes from now on unless it&#8217;s a recovery week (Tues, 14 Feb and Tues, 6 March). \u00a0I&#8217;ve given a route option to your fearless Tuesday leaders, but know you can always just run along the canal in either direction, run down to Hyde Park or run loops around Regent&#8217;s Park until you have your 60 minutes done. \u00a0No worries.<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"color: #3366ff; font-family: 'times new roman', serif;\">Lastly, the weather should be slightly better by Thursday. \u00a0We run in all conditions except ice. \u00a0If it&#8217;s snowing, that&#8217;s fine. \u00a0If it&#8217;s raining, that&#8217;s fine. \u00a0But, if there&#8217;s a risk of hitting ice, it&#8217;s not worth it. \u00a0If that&#8217;s the case, I&#8217;ll send out an email the night before to cancel and we&#8217;ll figure out how to adjust our schedule to do a &#8220;make-up&#8221; run.<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"color: #3366ff; font-family: 'times new roman', serif;\">See you Thursday if not before!<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"color: #3366ff; font-family: 'times new roman', serif;\">Happy Running,<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"color: #3366ff; font-family: 'times new roman', serif;\">Paula<\/span><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Hello Everyone!
