{"id":1112,"date":"2012-10-20T12:27:31","date_gmt":"2012-10-20T12:27:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/womenrunningtheworld.com\/beginners\/2016\/02\/15\/20_20_october_note-5\/"},"modified":"2016-02-16T00:17:10","modified_gmt":"2016-02-16T00:17:10","slug":"20_october_note","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/womenrunningtheworld.com\/beginners\/2012\/10\/20\/20_october_note\/","title":{"rendered":"Beginner Note 20 October 2012"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Hello Runners,<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_style\">OK, it\u2019s official&#8230;. this is the strongest beginners group we\u2019ve ever had.\u00a0 You girls are fabulous!\u00a0 We\u2019re doing extremely well and are right on track with our training program.\u00a0 I love this photo &#8211; look how happy everyone looks!\u00a0 We\u2019ve gotten to a point where it will be very difficult for anyone to join the group.\u00a0 It\u2019s near impossible for a beginner to step into 7 or 8 minute jogging intervals &#8211; so this is our group (plus those who weren\u2019t there on the day).\u00a0 Over the next few weeks, we\u2019ll probably start to notice a bit of pace differential within the group.\u00a0 This is fine and it\u2019s to be expected.\u00a0 Each of us have individual gaits\/running-styles and we have a natural pace.\u00a0 Those with a faster cadence (foot turn-over) or a longer stride need to start migrating to the front of the pack.\u00a0 It\u2019s very important that you run your natural pace &#8211; if you are a faster runner and you slow down your pace, the action of \u201cputting on your brakes\u201d can cause knee and hip pain.\u00a0 I know that can be hard when you\u2019ve grown used to running beside your closest friends in the group.\u00a0 The majority of this year\u2019s group has a similar pace but we do have some faster and slower runners.\u00a0 This isn\u2019t a contest so don\u2019t worry about where you fall into the group!!!!\u00a0 Find your own pace.\u00a0 Follow Kavita\u2019s lead!\u00a0 She\u2019s doing a brilliant job of maintaining her own, individual pace.\u00a0 She\u2019s doing exactly what I\u2019m asking you to do &#8211; she\u2019s found her own pace and is sticking with it.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_style_1\">Running Group T-shirts:<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_style\">Our t-shirt order is ready to go in!\u00a0 Please check this google doc to make sure your order is correct &#8211; <a title=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/spreadsheet\/ccc?key=0AlPYNmKuXK9DdDJ2a3JzSERIY0E2YkVlWmVjRnpWMnc#gid=0\" href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/spreadsheet\/ccc?key=0AlPYNmKuXK9DdDJ2a3JzSERIY0E2YkVlWmVjRnpWMnc#gid=0\">Click here for the link<\/a>\u00a0 Kelli will be closing the edit function on the document at midnight on Monday night.\u00a0 Whatever is in the document at that time is our order.\u00a0 Check your details.\u00a0 Kelli and I have input\/updated some payment information and size changes per your requests.\u00a0 I hope we didn\u2019t make any mistakes, but if we did&#8230;.\u00a0 this is your last chance to catch it before the order is placed.\u00a0 If you have not made payment and have not spoken with me about that, please confirm that you do want a t-shirt.\u00a0 I\u2019m happy to sort out finances later but I don\u2019t want to order a shirt for you if you\u2019ve changed your mind.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_style_2\"><span class=\"style_2\">Bratislava<\/span> &#8211; Race registration is now open.\u00a0 It\u2019s far from simple but it can be done.\u00a0 I tried doing it in English and the system hung up at step 2.\u00a0 In Slovak, it worked but I had to input a Slovakian zip code (try using 811 02 &#8211; just like that with a space between the 811 and the 02) with my London address.\u00a0 I can\u2019t explain why but it\u2019s the only way I could get it to work.\u00a0 It looks like there is no free shirt in our goodie bags.\u00a0 If you want a race shirt, you have to order one (\u20ac16) when you are signing up for the race.\u00a0 There is no rush to register so maybe I could bring my laptop to Bonnie\u2019s house on 15 November and everyone could just line up and register for the race.\u00a0 Once you see someone else do it, it\u2019s easier (easier but not easy!!!!).\u00a0 The cost of the race is \u20ac24 payable by credit card online. The cost slightly increases after 31 December.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_style_2\">If you go ahead and register before 15 November, please input your club name as:\u00a0 WRW London (Women Running the World) so the race director will know that you are part of our group.\u00a0 Also, when it asks for your fastest half-marathon time, leave that field blank.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_style_2\">I\u2019m out-of-town from Thursday, 25 October, until Sunday night, 4 November, so will miss two runs with the group.\u00a0 I\u2019m soooooo sad about that!!!\u00a0 I promise Syma, Bonnie and Betsy will take good care of you.\u00a0 On Thursday, 25 October, Darcy Fautz will be a guest coach for the day.\u00a0 Darcy trains with our Mon\/Wed\/Fri groups.\u00a0 She\u2019s done a couple of half-marathons and a full marathon.\u00a0 Ask her for any tips\/suggestions\/training info; just like our other coaches, she\u2019s a great source of information.<\/p>\n<div class=\"paragraph paragraph_style_2\">\n<p>On Tuesday, feel free to repeat the run to Big Ben or to do the running\/walking intervals in Regents Park or on the canal.<\/p>\n<div class=\"tinyText style_SkipStroke_1 inline-block\" style=\"height: 343px; width: 215px; clear: right; float: right; margin: 7px 0px 7px 7px;\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"border: none; height: 344px; width: 215px;\" src=\"https:\/\/womenrunningtheworld.com\/beginners\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2016\/02\/droppedImage-13.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/div>\n<p>Next Thursday, 25 October, Syma will lead you down to Hyde Park and the following week, 1 November, the route will probably be along the canal.\u00a0 In case you are not able to run with the group on Thursday (25th), the map to the right is the approximate route.\u00a0 This is a great route to learn &#8211; once you can comfortably get down to Hyde Park, the running world is open to you!\u00a0 Hyde Park is huge.\u00a0 It gives us lots of route options.\u00a0 I\u2019ll be back running with you on Thursday, 8 November.\u00a0 I\u2019m was thinking we could do a run to Whole Foods on Kensington High Street.\u00a0 It\u2019s a great place to finish a run.\u00a0 Whoever is available &#8211; stay for coffee and\/or grocery shopping!<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p class=\"paragraph_style_2\">Just to summarize our
