Women running the world
Women running the world
WELCOME BACK! Beginner group starts Thursday, 10 September 2015.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
What started as a casual group of friends training for a half marathon or two turned into 100+ women running, socializing and having fun on any given day of the week. Started by Paula Mitchell and now carried on by a group dedicated to continuing the fun and friendships Paula fostered. With maybe some running, too.
Runners meet Monday, Wednesday and Friday at the St. John’s Wood Barclays (corner of Circus and Wellington Roads) at 8:15 am. Weekly emails are sent out September through June with suggested routes. A beginner group runs Tuesday and Thursday with the program beginning in September. Click here to request to be added to the email list or for more information on the beginner group. We welcome you any time of the year, although beginners are encouraged to start with the group in September if possible.
With as many runners as we have, you will be sure to find someone running at your pace and desired distance. It can be overwhelming at first, but just show up and introduce yourself to someone and you’re ready to go.
In the spring, we will travel someplace fun for our group half-marathon. You do not have to commit to the trip (or to training for such a long distance event) to run in the group. For a lot of women, it’s helpful to have a goal. It keeps us running through the winter months and provides a focus to the training. We currently have women training for a wide range of events but most of us are aiming for the spring half-marathon. Under the “Training Programs” tab, you’ll find a couple of plans for half-marathon training. One is a standard program and the other is a more gradual build of mileage. Take your pick or email us if you feel that none of those programs will work for you. Once you have your program, check the mileage suggested for the week, then look at the routes and decide what you want to do. The idea is that if you have a program to follow, and if we lay out the route descriptions (which we try design to meet the distance requirements of different programs), then everyone will find a way to make it work. That’s the theory - let us know if it’s not working!!!!
Come join us!
